"My Father Told Me I Was Fat" - Cherie 'A'

Cherie was involved in an extremely unfortunate circumstance growing up. She was raised by an angry alcoholic who would bully Cherie verbally. Each day, Cherie’s father would insult her on her appearance, intelligence, and integrity. Every single day. The absolute, most influential people that affect an individuals character are his or her parents. Nobody else has more of a hold on a child’s life than does their parents. In Cherie’s instance, her source of immediate influence was a very disturbed and selfish man; her father. He was disturbed in that he would verbally abuse his own child day after day after day and selfish in that he spent most of his time and family’s money on alcohol and becoming enraged, hence taking out his drunkenness and pity upon his daughter. The years of abuse left permanent scars on Cherie’s life that could heal but would always be apart of her. Causing Cherie to become insecure to think that anything she did was completely insignificant, Cherie’s father was in essence killing her. He was preventing her to grow and mature as a human being and become imaginative and involved within society. She had no sense of self worth and this was all due to her father’s regrettable actions towards her.
The death of Cherie’s father was ironic. He had stunted Cherie’s emotional and mental growth, thus prohibiting her to live. At his death, however, was the beginning of Cherie’s life. Once her father had passed, Cherie could now begin her role in society and add her own self worth into society in the form of her words. There was no one to constantly put her down and instill the thought of failure anymore, thus leading her to see the truth that she did have value and was not merely a “fat, lazy, and stupid” individual that she had believed for over three decades. Without Cherie’s father’s death, she would not have ever begun to live. This is in fact truth, no matter how disturbing this concept may seem.
