The America I Believe In-A

The America I Believe In
By Colin Powell

America is a land of opportunity, a land of immigrants (legal, mind you), a land that though under tough scrutiny is still respected. Colin Powell believes that America’s openness was her greatest vulnerability, as shown in 9/11. After the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, America did close her open domain. She had every reason to. Americans were in a state of panic, and who could blame them? Then our beloved couple, cause and effect, kicks in and other countries bring their business elsewhere. This hurt the American economy and American prestige. But did America stop, throw in the towel, and give up the fight? No! We continue to have immigrants line up, wait, and endure the process of becoming American citizens. By their own choice, at that! Refugees hope to come to America; we welcome them with open arms. I believe, like Colin Powell, that America is strong and will be able to pull through the crises handed her. Through the noisy sounds of democracy, if America and her people stand by the Constitution, our freedom will not be compromised and other nations will continue to be inspired by a democracy like America’s.
