Face-to-Face Versus Online Connections-Assertion Journal
This article talks about how actual connections made with people face to face are usually stronger than connections made online. I think that websites like Facebook and Myspace are great for keeping in touch with friends. I’m even on Facebook right now making plans for tomorrow with my “Reform Storm” group members. These websites are great for making plans and keeping in touch with friends, but when it comes down to actually meeting people, it’s better to do it face to face. By meeting people face to face you eliminate the possibility that you’re only a number on some ones friends list. The author brings up a story about a woman who was looking for a job. The author said that the woman didn’t find any work when she was applying for jobs online but when she met the employers in person she found a job. I don’t have a problem with talking to some one online. I’m just saying if you want a connection that will last, you should probably meet face to face instead of just talking on Facebook.

I agree quite strongly that meeting face-to-face is a much stronger and more influential connection then that of an online connection. When you use the internet as a means of connecting with people, sure its convenient and effiecient, but its a connection that has a downfall, its meaning. When you use the internet for communication, you loose some of the meaning you have then you would if you were accutally socializing with that person. If you were actually socializing with that person, then the meanings and terms that we use in our everyday English language that depend on how those words are said, are much more direct and shows the point that the speaker is making; but if that same socializing connection was done over the internet, then those words that depend on vocalization to express its meaning is not fully understood and the meaning is not given as accurately. I am not saying that communication over the internet is a terrible way to communicate with others and that it should be banned forever, no. I am saying that with this more efficien way of communicating has its price, that there are downfalls to using it. If interaction was much more common place, then connections between people would be much more binding then that of a connection made over the internet. Personal, face-to-face connections are the best connections to have over all, even though the internet has its benefits, socializing is the best form of communication.
