Fear is probably the one thing everybody in the world has in common. You can be terrified of losing a loved one or a beloved job, or simply dying. Fear is fear. Something that is familiar to everyone in the world holds a great deal of power. That is why I agree with Terry Ahwal that you should fight fear. Whether we acknowledge it or not, fear has a hold on us and it affects everything we do.
When you decide riding a rollercoaster is just too scary for you, it is your fear that is making the decision. If you don’t express your opinion because it is different in every aspect, you are letting your fear make your decisions. If Ahwal had let her fear take over, she mostly likely would not have lived tell her story. Similarly, we as Americans don’t fight our fear, we are setting ourselves up for danger. We would also miss out on many great things in life. I also believe it is best to fight fear because otherwise we might not have met that good fried that you still keep in touch. If you are afraid of being different and befriending the new person in school or your neighborhood, who are you hurting? If overcoming a fear means that you go against the familiar, then do it knowing that you are the one who will be getting the most out of life.
