This is another 1950s article, this time by General Lucius D. Clay
Clay recalls the time in which he stood in Berlin, witnessing the longing for freedom. In his article, he maintains that freedom is a gift. By calling on Americans to protect it, he shows how important it is to him. I have to agree with General Clay because I too feel that we are responsible to guard freedom. How we do this is debatable, especially when it comes to war. I think General Clay takes the right path by avoiding war as a concept or topic when it comes to the protection of freeedom. Instead, he chooses to highlight equal opportunity. This equal opportunity is definetly a means of protecting freedom. In fact, this is the very idea of freedom at work. Instead of arguing about war so often, we can do as General Clay advises. By protecting each other and our opporunities, we can help our troops by protecting freedom on the home-front.
