I disagree with Cecilia Munoz’s article entitled A Little Outrage Can Take You a Long Way; hatred is not a successful source of motivation. While outrage as a driving force may launch immediate change, it will not carry you a long way into prosperity. Instead, hatred will bring a burden on your soul. The constant feeling that it is your obligation to change the world just to prove somebody wrong will cause overwhelming stress and guilt in your life. “In my first job, if we helped 50 immigrant families in a day, the faces of the five who didn’t qualify haunted my dreams at night.” Munoz mentions the guilt she felt when she could not help every single person in her job. The outrage you use as an impetus will only produce negative effects in your quest to succeed.
When indignation is the only source of force, then what will happen when the hatred subsides? You will be stuck with no will to fight for change. “Anger has a way, though, of hollowing out your insides.” To continue fighting for what you believe in, it is necessary to gain other emotions to inspire you, like love and happiness. Munoz states that she gained a reputation for being strident and ferocious, which are not the best qualities to possess. Positivity is a great way to achieve more because it acts as a stronger fuel for accomplishment. A cheerful attitude will bring more power to the mind; the people you idolize and love will serve as inspiration for you to make it to the top.
