Assertion response--- to Kristen House’s assertion Mother Blames Verbal Bullying for Death of Her Son, Inquest Hears

I strongly disagree that verbal bullying can cause people to commit suicide. Suicide is a choice. People can affect the choice but they can not make it for the person having suicidal thoughts. Verbal bullying can only go so far as to encourage suicidal thoughts. There is no way that calling someone, “gay” or “fat” is going to send someone over the edge. They must have some previous problem. Suicide is one of the most selfish things a person can do. They leave their family and friends with heartache and so many questions. The family is constantly wondering if there was anything they could have done to prevent this, or could they have seen it coming? The person who is committing suicide is only thinking about themselves when they commit themselves to pulling the trigger. Although the loss of human life is always tragic I do not believe that verbal bullying can be the soul cause of suicide.
