Assertion Journal

This is in response to the article Villagers Confine Rare Turtle, Say it is God by Bappa Majumdar http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091110/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_india_turtle

This is a news article but I think I have something to say about it so...

At the first glance this story is kind of funny. It's an amusing concept that a group of people could see a turtle and become convinced that it is God. At the same time, though, it makes you think about what makes you believe what you believe. Is there really any conclusive reasoning that proves your God is any more real or imaginary than these people's turtle-god? I think people need to spend less time trying to define God as a tangible thing and just accept that you really do not know what is going on. I'm not saying faith is a bad thing, I actually believe the opposite, that faith can make some really great things happen. But with the turtle-god-people, it's kind of ridiculous when they try and define an object as God.
