Assertion---Responce

Assertion—response to Kyle’s response of Saying Thanks to My Ghosts by Amy Tan

I agree with Kyle that living in your past is not the way to go, but if you do not remember your “ghosts” then you lose a piece of your identity. Its like the moral Disney movie Mulan. She discovers herself through a series of adventures, but never forgets to honor her ancestor/ghosts. Her ancestors are a part of her. If you lose what you consider to be your “ghosts,” you lose a part of yourself. The only way to learn is to look at past events. You can not let these ghosts define your life though. If you live your life in constant fear of making the same mistakes your parents or grandparents make, you will never really be happy you will constantly be looking over your shoulder and thinking about, “what if that happens to me.” Amy Tan’s relationship with her ghosts was a little bit unhealthy. She does let her ghosts run her life. She needs to figure out that she can not do anything to bring her brother or father back and she could not have prevented what happened to them. She needs to figure out that living constantly thinking about this tragedy is not the right answer. Do not let you ancestors define you but don’t forget them either.
