assertion journal, guns on school campuses

This assertion journal is in response to Pat Tabb’s journal about the on going debate on guns on school campuses.

I disagree with Pat because while college students and teachers are all adults and mature, any of them can have one second were anger clouds their judgment, and if they have a gun on them, something tragic could happen. Also if someone knows a person is carrying a gun, then they can easily steal the gun and turn it on the owner. I do not think guns should be allowed on school property because there is always a chance that someone will get upset or humiliated, and they could so easily reach for their gun.
While I understand that teachers or students, who are mentally stable, could be able to save lives in an incident of a school shooting and have the right to protect themselves, I think having guns at the school would not help, but only increase the numbers of death. So many times each day, students are laughed at, bullied, or dumped; teachers are ignored routinely and are disrespected almost everyday. It does not take much for a person to lose their temper, and I believe that if they had a gun, they would not hesitate to use it.
Guns should be restricted to those who know how to use them, and they should be kept off of school grounds. Nothing good ever comes from having guns around, and someone always ends up injured. There are too many what-ifs in the argument of students or teachers carrying guns. I don’t think anyone who isn’t train to react to a shooting would be prepared for one, and if they tried to help, they could cause more deaths unintentionally.
