Happiness is a Choice- assertion journal

Happiness is a Choice

The article “Happiness is a Choice” discusses setbacks and how one can work to overcome them. The article discusses the author’s visual impairment and how he’s had to work extremely hard to overcome it. Not only has he had to work harder than other children to do well in school, he’s had to make sacrifices in his own life to be successful. The author, Aaron, has accepted the fact that life isn’t fair and has made the choice to be happy in his life. Although his impairment has held him back in many areas, including schoolwork and sports, his decision to be happy enables him to enjoy his experiences, no matter how difficult they are for him.

I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult life would become with any kind of impairment. A visual impairment would greatly affect my life, probably in a more negative way than positive. I don’t know if I could react as optimistically as he has to his life’s situation. I too have made the choice to be happy in my life. However, it is not as difficult for me to be happy as it is for some people. My life’s situation is not negatively affected by a severe injury, disease, or impairment. I have not suffered through almost anything in my life. I don’t know what it is like to lose everything in my life. I choose to be happy because it is logical; there isn’t any reason for me not to be. If something awful happened to me, I don’t know if I could continue being as happy as I am, but I hope I would be. Being happy is a constant effort for some, yet comes naturally for others. I believe that nobody’s life is perfect, but everyone can choose to be happy, regardless of their circumstances.
