This is an assertion to the essay “Science Nourishes the Mind and the Soul” By Brian Greene.
What David Greene is saying is completely true! Science and Math have great impacts on peoples’ lives, because without it we, simply, would not be in the world we are in today. Science and Math have even shaped the way we think about even the simplest of tasks. It is true that the idea of a Universe billions of times bigger than our selves makes us feel insignificant, but there is hope behind it.
Greene says that “From our lonely corner of the cosmos we have used ingenuity and determination to touch the very limits of outer and inner space.” He is basically saying, we the small people of earth, have conquered the dark depths of the universe with our superior intellect even though it is billions of times bigger than we are. I believe that this is something that should give hope to anyone who thinks about it with great intent.
The idea that a high school dropout can reevaluate his life and reinvest his time into the study of math and science is a very realistic idea. There are very few people on this earth that are unable to learn, but many people who believe they can’t. So if math and science is able to cause them to reevaluate themselves, then Math and Science really does touch peoples’ mind and soul.
