Today, Americans are obsessed with themselves. They will do anything to get a leg up in the competition or anything beneficial for themselves. If everyone would stop focusing on themselves and put this energy towards helping humanity, our world would be a better place. Anthony Fauci purposes the idea of service to mankind. He says he lives his life by three principles: The thirst for knowledge, the drive to be a perfectionist, and to give back to mankind. Fauci acknowledges that the global society is more important than him as an individual.
The thirst for knowledge is what Fauci has lived his entire life by. Even as a little kid he always wanted to know and understand more. This yearning has given him the push to help find a cure for AIDS. I believe that the thirst for knowledge is a wonderful principle to live your life by. If you are always seeking out knew things, you never know what you may discover along the journey. If everyone had a unquenchable thirst for knowledge, the discoveries would be limitless.
Fauci's second principle is perfectionism. I do not fully agree with this principle due to the fact that no one can be perfect. He says that he sweats the big and small stuff and always strives to be perfect in everything his does. While I feel you should always do the best you can, striving for perfectionism is an unrealistic goal. Striving for something that will never happen on Earth I feel would frustrate me rather than motivate me.
Finally Fauci says to give back to humankind. He gives back by studying to find the cure for AIDS. Even when he was made fun of for it, Fauci continued to look for this cure to help people around the globe. If we were all as selfless as Fauci, our society would be a place of peace and prosperity where everyone would want to live.
