I Believe in Living Small- assertion journal

I Believe in Living Small

This essay discusses a middle-aged woman who is completely satisfied with her current lifestyle. In a consumerist economy where the biggest, best, and brightest is constantly changing and growing, this point of view is refreshing. This woman is content with the choices she has made and the moderate way of life she leads. She explains that she doesn’t need designer clothes or furniture to live a good life; or even a good life with the occasional splurge.

I agree with the ideas of this woman. She has her head on straight and realizes that taking more than is necessary can hurt the earth. My family participates in similar things as hers- my sister and I share clothes so that we don’t waste money buying more than is necessary, we have relatively inexpensive furniture and we don’t exclusively drive sports cars. These seem like small things, but together, they make for a comfortable lifestyle. I have never gone hungry, but I don’t eat at expensive restaurants every night. I have nice clothes to wear, but I don’t have to wear designers exclusively. This woman and I are similar in that I am perfectly happy with my life, and I am comfortable with what I currently possess. The same can not be said of everyone; many are always striving for the newest, best possessions. It’s not necessary to have an extravagant life; sometimes mediocrity is just fine.
