Assertion Journal 4
I Believe In Laughter discusses the importance of being able to laugh at yourself after tripping or making a mistake. I agree with the author when she states that having the ability to laugh at yourself is a great gift. She describes a time in junior high when she fell of a stage in front of her entire school, and it was then that she was able to realized the importance of laughing at herself. I speak from personal experience when I say, this works. Everyone has embarrassing moments, but you can be spared humility if you can laugh off a simple slip-up or trip over your own feet. I never understood how a person could easily recover from a mortifying situation until I, myself, laughed off a mistake I had made. The situation may be discomforting at first, but once you can laugh at yourself, people forget the mistake you made and laugh along with you. An old proverb says that laughter is the best medicine. This quote is shown true in this situation, once you can nurse your humiliation with laughter, you'll be healed of embarrassing moments.
