There is no job more important than parenting. In twenty-first century America, this claim will, more than likely, be either scoffed at or agreed with, however many who agree may not reflect this statement in everyday life. For Benjamin Carson, this belief pushed him to be who he is today. His mother, a household maid who never received education after the third grade, was one of the driving forces behind his success as a pediatric neurosurgeon. When Carson was young, she limited television time for his brother and himself, and made them read two books a week from the library, along with a book report on both books. As Carson worked his way into high school, he wanted to be cool, to be one of the guys. He learned a financial lesson from his mother after asking for new clothes, and realized that immediate gratification was not going to get him anywhere, so he hit the books again. Carson’s mother continued to inspire him through her steadfast faith in God, thus helping him perform challenging medical operations and medical conflicts of his own. With out his mother, Carson may have never become the renowned neurosurgeon he is today.
Parenting is important. Children normally feed the most off of parents, and it is a parent’s job to help their child succeed. Who has the time to parent children in this fast paced world though? Do parents not have enough on their plates already, with work, relationships, and countless other life chores? Children should be able to fend for themselves; just send them to a school, or, better yet, a private school-that is, if you have the money. Let the world bring them up, let the world teach them what is right and what is wrong. Parents-sit back, relax, and get on with your already hectic lives. You have enough on your plates.
Yeah, right. Also, have fun never knowing your child. What if you child did end up becoming renowned? You would have nothing to do with it. Parenting is direly important; it gives children a sense of security, someone to look up to, and someone to please. Instill your values into your children, parents-and usually the child will not abandon those ways. Take part in your child’s life-you as a parent are shaping the future.
