Assertion- The Importance of Arts Programs in Schools

The Importance of Arts Programs in Schools

The article, The Importance of Arts Programs in Schools, argues that we should keep arts programs in public schools despite the need for budget cuts. The author, Sarah Nordgren, talks about her experiences in her art and creative writing classes. I absolutely agree with her argument because I’ve had similar experiences with my arts classes in school.

Nordgren talked about how her arts classes helped her deal with all of the stress and anxieties in her life. That is exactly what drama and acting does for me, and I’m sure that those classes help other kids as well. Nordgren says that if children don’t learn how to express themselves creatively, they will be like robots who can’t think for themselves. I absolutely agree. I don’t see how there can be any hope of imagination or innovation for the future if children can’t express themselves creatively now. I can’t imagine anyone who would want to live in a world without imagination.
