Be Cool To the Pizza Delivery Dude was written by Sarah Adams, an English Professor at Olympic Community College.
Adams believes that everyone needs to be nice and "cool" to the pizza delivery guys. She states the kindness in a person's heart begins with the kindness towards the pizza delivery dudes. This seems to be very good logic to me. Think about it- who are the most common people we treat rudely? Janitors, employees at fast food restaurants, and pizza delivery guys. Be honest, you all know at one point or another in your life, you weren't the nicest towards these people. If you can manage being nice, actually nice, to these people, treating others kindly should not be a problem. If you are nice to these people, pizza delivery guy or not, shows your equality, empathy, and honor.
If a multi-millionaire lawyer showed respect to the young, arrogant, red-faced pizza delivery guy that showed up at his door, this lawyer would be showing how he views himself and this pizza delivery guy as equals. After all, a person is a person.
Show empathy to your pizza guy. Think about how he feels. Working long hours driving up and down the street all night, hopping in and out of his car in the coldest wintery snow and blazing summer heat, smelling the warm aroma of freshly baked pizza knowing he cannot have a single bite. All of this for a few spare bucks from your pocket as a tip.
So be nice to your pizza guy. You never know where you and that pizza guy will be in 10 years in the big pizza wheel of life. You never know if one day you will be serving pizza to your pizza guy. For those of you who could never hurt a fly, don't forget to be nice to your pizza guy.
